We typically get back to people the same day. Dr. Paul’s staff are available from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. The DuPage Medical Group Spine Department has a handful of PAs that take calls after hours for emergencies only, but we ask that patients respect that reservation.

When to See Dr. Paul?
Due to the amount of time Dr. Paul spends in the operating room and high demand, Dr. Paul’s appointments are usually coordinated by the Duly spine staff. People who see Dr. Paul for consultation have typically undergone significant non-operative care or have been referred directly by Kevin, a physiatrist, or a pain doctor.
Before the consultation, an MRI will be performed for evaluation, as these visits are surgical discussions. Referrals to Dr. Paul directly often involve a problem that requires surgery more urgently or may have been offered surgery elsewhere. A referral to Dr. Paul does not mean he will recommend surgery. Only some who see Dr. Paul are offered an operation as Dr. Paul tries to exhaust non-operative options whenever possible.
In order to minimize risk and optimize your outcome Dr. Paul has several requirements prior to surgery:
- Cardiac, pulmonary and renal function must be maximized for your given situation.
- Additional criteria are a body mass index of 38 or lower, well controlled diabetes with a HgA1C of less than seven.
- Contact Dr. Paul.
When to See Kevin (Dr. Paul’s Physician Assistant)
Kevin sees the vast majority of patients in Dr. Paul’s practice. Each has over ten years of experience, and one of them is in the clinic almost every business day. Kevin help provide non-operative care and order imaging when needed. They help care for the 95% of people who do not require surgical care in our practice.
Kevin are always available to help you understand your spine problem and answer your questions. Together they see over 1200 patients and assist with over 200 spine cases with Dr. Paul every year. Having reputations in the medical community for being caring and knowledgeable, it’s not unusual for physicians and nurses to seek advice from them. They can typically see patients requesting an appointment within 72 hours. Kevin speaks with Dr. Paul almost daily and discuss patients continuously.
Helping to manage non-operative care for so many people, they often form close and personal relationships with their patients undergoing surgery. They spend substantial time in the hospital and ASC with people after surgery and work very closely as a trusted resource with the nursing staff. Contact Kevin.
